Reggiani has been operating in the lighting technology sector for over fifty years. It began producing lamps in 1957, but very soon found the light obtainable from decorative lamps to be inadequate. With its "culture of light" and strong interests in perception, and with its sense of the great potential for new lighting sources, it knew that light must not be "obvious"- it has to be designed.
And so the company decided to dedicate its efforts to the production of technical lighting fixtures. It designs a new quality of light via the functional optimization of lighting sources, and creates the form best suited to the function of such a light. It was not enough for Reggiani to obtain a very efficacious light: it also wanted the light which makes it possible for us to see to be emitted from an object that is also pleasant to behold. Reggiani began collaborating with designers such as Giò Ponti, and its creations became true industrial design objects. Reggiani Illuminazione became the precursor of "low voltage" lighting and is the leader of recessed lighting: in just a few years its luminaires have become a standard, benchmark products in the lighting sector, and of course they are often imitated. Nevertheless, the numerous imitations can match neither the quality of this light, nor the value of the materials and components used in building it. The essence of Reggiani is precisely the special quality of this light, which can be caressing or hard, but is always concrete, crystalline and complete. When a Reggiani lighting device illuminates something, you see outlines, materials, and colors that other lights fail to reveal: you witness a revelation, you see objects appear forthrightly, you behold their extreme vividness. Reggiani is a company whose tradition can be summed up with the words: passion for ideas, aspiration to quality, search for functional innovation, systematic approach to lighting technology. If it can be said of many of its products that they were forerunners, it can be said of all of them that they are marked by versatility, durability, safety and reliability. Today, Reggiani manufactures and markets technical lighting fixtures for interiors and exteriors. It has a sales structure that distributes its products in Italy and eighty other countries. It has four industrial facilities (one in Italy, in Sovico; one in the U.K., in Borehamwood; one in the U.S. in New York and one in China in Ningbo); and two showrooms: in Paris and Ningbo (China). Reggiani lighting fixtures comply with the electrical standards of a variety of countries. This means that products must be bought that are right for the country in which they are to be used. Otherwise, the manufacturer’s guarantee becomes void. Over 60 Reggiani products have obtained U.L. certification, which attests their compliance with U.S. standards. Reggiani’s top sellers include Low Voltage, Space Light, Downspot, Sunlight, Supertechne, Scoop, Metamorphosi, ZeroZeroUno and FullIndy. International awards include: IF Hannover, Industrie Forum Design Hannover, Light Product Award, Compasso d’Oro, Premio de Diseño La Habana, Excellence Award London, Trophéé du Design Paris, IBD Institute of Business Designers New York, Roscoes Chicago, Lighting Design Award and Britespot Fixture Design Competition. Reggiani has a fleet of “Sun Chariots”, large trucks fitted out as real educational centers that travel all over Europe exhibiting products and offering technical and design assistance—supplying both information and training. Reggiani has always seen research as the sine qua non for being able to produce lighting fixtures. Evidence of its research activity (in the scientific realm, design methodology and the phenomenology of perception) is found in the books of the Reggiani Editore (“Library of Light”) which are available to architects, designers and students. |
