Sansibar by Breuninger is a new restaurant based in the new Dorotheen Quartier in Stuttgart. The restaurant is a cooperation between fashion and lifestyle company Breuninger and Herbert Secklers cult restaurant on Sylt island. The aim of the design concept is to surround the guest with the relaxing lifestyle of the northern island in the midst of the new quarter. With 377 seats in the indoor and outdoor areas and occupying 756 square metres, the restaurant will be the flagship of the new quarter even after the store has closed. Atmospheric colours and typical island materials are placed in an urban context to create a unique space concept and feel-good location. The architectural implementation is by Dittel Architekten.
The maritime concept of the restaurant is conveyed mainly thorough materials and colours. The smooth, sandy-coloured wall pays further homage to the dune-filled landscape, its horizontal backlit waves creating a dynamic effect. Furnishings in orange and green hues create colour contrasts with the predominantly earthy tones. The maritime theme is interpreted and developed in different ways across three sections: the lounge with a row of inlaid seating, hut area and fine dining.
The zones are spread across two different floor levels and have varying ceiling heights as well as alternating laying directions for the fishbone parquet flooring with frieze around the edges. A continuation of the material concept, oak and teak wood are the predominant furnishings for the outdoor terrace.
The lighting concept, provided by Kardorff Ingenieure Lichtplanung had the task to be flexible and effective from breakfast to lunch until dinner, bar and disco time. Only LED lights with Warm Dim and Tuneable White were used. For the lighting concept, around 60 luminaires and almost 100 meters of linear luminaires were used to create almost 60 different components for an optimal ambience. All components can be controlled separately, so that a total of seven different light scenes can be created. Plus, the light can be operated via a touch panel, which also controls the PA system.
For this purpose, Reggiani provided Yori Evo Ghostrack 13W and MOOD L 13W trimless adjustable downlight (110mm), both with a warm dimming LED COB for a unique a soft colour changing effect from 2000K to 3000K and an outstanding CRI, more than 95. The products are working with DALI drivers to fit the control settings and create the different light scenes generated for the restaurant activities during the day.
